Fun bits:
Discovering that Ilario makes his own references to his backstory without my having to go and drag things out of him. There are a few lines of his today that actually belong to him, and will stay that way, so that is something I am extremely happy with.
Not-so-fun:
Stioll no name for 2IC! I am sure I had one once. I feel certain it starts with an 'L'. That could be habit as far as this society goes, though.
To do:
Still not in Caius' territory. It wwill probably take another few days to get there, which means that I probably have some time to faff about with Nuada and 2IC and Delan and develop loyalties and blah blah. I'll probably be done with the first stage of this novel around the 15k mark, at which point we will, I think, skip to the heroes. Because making elves cry is awesome. :D

Nuada gets Delan some less exhausted clothing. ...no, really, that's about it.
Fun bits:
Still Nuada. I like her. I also really like writing Delan sitting in one place, feeling out stuff that's around him and making reasoned assessments based on his finds. I do need to remember that a lot of the more expensive stuff Ilario will later have around, he won't recognise, though.
Not-so-fun:
Ummmmm. Delan's voice is really iffy. Really iffy. But it'll get there. He talks more to Nuada than to Ilario at this point, and that's a problem. She needs to feel sorry for him, not to have a deep comradeship with him. Perhaps he should be hanging around with 2IC instead of Nuada... hmmm...
To do:
Figure out 2IC's name and introduce him properly. And get Ilario's little group most of the way to Caius.

Delan has been rescued by Ilario, and has been introduced to Ilario's 3IC, who is apparently called Nuada because she refused to be known as Nuala. Perhaps she doesn't think it's warriorly enough.
Fun bits:
Nuada, actually. I had no idea what she was like other than stern and a woman, and it turns out I rather like her. Hurrah!
Not-so-fun:
Realising that I am so not used to writing super-descriptively any more. I've done my best to strip purple prose out of my writing, but Delan needs that extra sensory description to seem real. These are things to consider during the edit, though, not the initial draft.
To do:
Meet the 2IC, who really doesn't have a name yet, and ride out with Ilario's small company. I have no idea where they're going to settle at the moment, but Ilario tends to have plans for these things, so I'm going to leave the hard bit to him and go to bed. |

Two sleeps until NaNo. Assuming sleep. I am excited, but in a small and very tired way. I'm looking forward to it the way most people look forward to winning the lottery: assuming it will never happen.
It's just two sleeps away, though, and that's something.
Wor will continue being ridiculous until mid-December, of course, but I'm sure I have one last thread of enthusiasm to spare on my novel/s. I always do. |
